Meeting with the students at S.M Timbua on 14th August 2004 (Michael Wan)

We arrived at the school late afternoon to have the football match, which was pre-arranged with the Warden. The school consists of students from Secondary 1 to Secondary 4.

Our handicap man team was beaten by 4:1. Although the boys are small  they are skillful, and to our surprise 3 of them are State players. They are all fully equipped with jerseys and boots. Two of our veteran players were injured and thank God there were no broken legs or ribs.

While the match was on, some of our ladies played table tennis with the girls.

Overall, it was a good icebreaker for the school children and teachers as well as friendship building with Skyline. It may be the opening for the next team to go to the school at Timbua to forge further friendship. The students are open, receptive and very curious as to what the visitors can offer them.

The team bought two footballs, one was presented to the coach before we left for Tibabar. The other was given to Pastor Jirun for the use of the new church.

Tinia Tsen writes about her experience and observation of the Sunday Service at Kg. Timbua, Tibabar on August 15th August 2004

“Fourteen people including three children from Y2J, WOW and FIZZ cell groups were in the morning Sunday service attended by more than 200 people mainly the students from the nearby school hostel.

Majority of us wanted to weep when we entered the new church building with the students welcoming us !!! We wept because God showed us the physical and spiritual condition of our tribal Christians who live in the interior. We identified with God’s compassion and love towards these young people. They had such hunger for God. God’s heart is very much on these precious people. I wept as I felt the compassion of God on them.

Our group led the worship and presented some song items in the service. Before I shared my testimony, our Zone leader, Ronald Ong, read Psalms 121 to them. This passage directed their focus to God. It was only God who could set us free from our sins.

I then shared a very short testimony about how I came to know the Lord experiencing the abundant life, about knowing the real God who could do miracles and could speak to us. Sharing to them God is real !!!

In the meeting, I sensed God wanted them to receive the power of the Holy Spirit.

Subsequently, Brother Wellon gave a good sermon encouraging them to follow God in their young age and excel in their studies as what he had done during his school days. The students responded to him well as they looked up to him like a big brother.

After the message, we prayed for the students for the empowering of the Holy Spirit.  All of the students came forward for prayer and after awhile the girls began to weep. There was healing of the heart and soul among them. God wanted to give them abundant life accompany by great joy. The joy of the Lord will be their strength in adversity. The students have such hunger for the reality of God. Much ground still needs to be broken but God is doing great  work in Timbua. The students will be instrumental to bring revival into Tibabar area, but they need to be strengthened in the Lord.

The service ended happily with all the students shaking our hands to bid farewell.”

NB: It is noted that only a few of the students have New Testament bibles but almost all without both testaments. One of their prayer requests is to have Malay Bibles as well as some chairs for the new church.

Indeed the presence of the LORD was awesome and powerful during the service.

Luk 22:26 But this is not the way it is with you; rather, the greatest one among you must be like the youngest, and the leader must be like the servant.

Luk 22:27 Who is greater, the one who sits down to eat or the one who serves? The one who sits down, of course. But I am among you as one who serves.
